The current study aimed to know the nature of the correlation between cognitive distortions and the five major factors of personality among undergraduate students in adolescence and to know the nature of the differences in each of the cognitive distortions and personality factors between males and females. 100 male and female students from each college; The researcher used the scale of cognitive distortions and the list of the five major factors of personality after verifying their psychometric characteristics using appropriate methods.
The most important results:
- There is a statistically significant correlation between cognitive distortions and personality traits among a sample of adolescent students, as the correlation coefficient was 0.605, which is significant at 0.01.
- There are no statistically significant differences on the scale of cognitive distortions due to the gender variable.
- There are no statistically significant differences on the scale of the five major factors of personality, according to the gender variable.
- There are statistically significant differences on the scale of cognitive distortions, according to the college variable.
- There are no statistically significant differences on the scale of the five major factors of personality, according to the college variable.
The research made several proposals, the most important of which were:
- The need to create a center for counseling and psychological guidance services at the University of Damascus.
- Carrying out the same study on larger and more comprehensive samples and for different age groups.
- The need to hold educational lectures on cognitive distortions directed at groups to activate the role of the psychological counselor in all educational stages, especially the university degree.
