Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the role of the story in providing children with the correct health and environmental behaviors, especially personal and general hygiene, healthy nutrition and disease prevention, preserving the cleanliness, beauty and safety of the environment, and other behaviors that the child must learn from the early stages. The researcher used the semi-experimental approach, and the research sample consisted of 20 boys and girls, divided equally between males and females. A story program was applied to them, which included 6 stories about healthy and environmental behaviors. They were given a pre-test and a post-test through an interview, where (5) marks were assigned to each correct answer. The results showed the following:

  • There are statistically significant differences between the scores of all respondents in the pre-measurement and their scores in the post-measurement in health and environmental behaviors in favor of the post-measurement, which confirms the effectiveness of the role of stories in providing children with some forms of healthy environmental and healthy behaviors. The effect size for healthy behaviors was 0.880, while for environmental behaviors 0.839.
  • There are statistically significant differences between the scores of female respondents in the pre-measurement and their scores in the post-measurement in health and environmental behaviors in favor of the post-measurement, which confirms the effectiveness of the role of stories in providing females with some forms of healthy and environmentally sound behaviors. The effect size for healthy behaviors was 0.631, as for to environmental behaviors 0.629.
  • There are statistically significant differences between the degrees of male respondents in the pre-measurement and their degrees in the post-measurement in health and environmental behaviors in favor of the post-measurement, which confirms the effectiveness of the role of stories in providing males with some forms of healthy environmental and healthy behaviors. The effect size for healthy behaviors was 0.630, as for to environmental behaviors 0.601.
  • There are no statistically significant differences between males and females in the post-measurement in health and environmental behaviors.
  • The researcher presented a set of proposals, the most important of which was activating the role of children's stories, by encouraging children to read them, allocating hours to read them in class, and allocating a corner in the library for children's stories.
