Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the level of selective silence and the level of shyness among government kindergarten children who have been exposed to traumatic events in the city of Damascus, and the relationship between selective silence and the phenomenon of shyness, and to reveal the differences between them according to the gender variable, and the effect of selective silence and demographic variables on shyness. The analytical descriptive approach was applied to the study sample, which numbered (100) male and female kindergarten children aged (4-5) years in the city of Damascus. They experienced traumatic events. The study used some tools, including the selective silence scale and the shyness scale. The most important results of the study: There is a positive, statistically significant correlation between selective silence and manifestations of shyness among children who have been exposed to traumatic events. And there were no statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the answers of the research sample members on the selective silence scale and the shyness scale according to the gender variable. And selective silence has a significant effect in showing the variable manifestations of shyness.
