Readability of the Biology and Land book for the Scientific Second Secondary Grade and its Relation with Students' Attitudes towards the Subject

Abstract

This study  aimed at measuring the readability of the biology and land book for the scientific second secondary grade  and its relation with students' Attitudes towards the subject in Damascus Governorate. To achieve the purposes of this study, the researcher used the analytical descriptive approach, and  a test for 8 texts  from the book was prepared. An attitude scale was also prepared to measure the attitudes of students towards the Biology and Land book.

The findings of this study  showed that:

  • The level of readability of the Biology and Land book for the scientific second secondary grade is suitable for students in this educational stage. The average students in this level was (2) and this is  the average of students in both the independent and educational level.
  • The level of female  readability of the texts was higher than males. There was a significant difference in the total grade in the test in favour of females.
  • There was a relation between the mean scores of readability grades in all the texts and the mean of their attitude grades towards the biology subject for all students.
