Cognitive dissonance and its relationship to self-confidence among university students.

The current research aims to study the relationship between cognitive dissonance and self-confidence among a sample of students at Damascus University, as well as to determine their levels of cognitive dissonance and self-confidence. Additionally, the research aims to examine the differences in cognitive dissonance and self-confidence among Damascus University students according to gender and college variables, using a sample of 504 students. The researcher followed a descriptive-analytical approach and utilized the researcher-developed Cognitive Dissonance Scale and the Self-Confidence Scale developed by Sydney Schreiber and translated by Dr. Adel Abdullah Muhammad
The research findings revealed a negative correlation between cognitive dissonance and self-confidence. The level of cognitive dissonance was found to be low on the overall scale and average on the emotional dimension. The level of self-confidence was found to be average. The results also indicated no significant differences in cognitive dissonance and self-confidence among the sample participants based on gender. However, there were differences in cognitive dissonance favoring theoretical colleges over applied colleges based on the variable of self-confidence
