The research aimed to identify the degree of use of democratic leadership and its obstacles among a sample of Syrian families in the city of Damascus, by measuring the degree of the fathers and mothers in the family and the obstacles to that, in addition to identifying the differences between the average grades of the members of the research sample according to the variables (gender and educational qualification). The descriptive research approach was used, by preparing a questionnaire consisting of (42) statements, divided into two axes, and directed to an available random sample of Syrian families in the city of Damascus, numbering (32) families with (84) fathers and mothers from these families. After ensuring the validity and reliability of the questionnaire and applying it to the sample, then analyzing the data, the results showed a moderate degree of use of democratic leadership by them, and a high degree of obstacles. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (0.05) according to the gender variable (males). (females) among members of the research sample, while statistically significant differences were found according to the academic qualification variable (high school or less, university degree, master’s degree, doctorate) in favor of the category of doctoral degree holders. Among the most important things that were suggested was working to increase protection programs aimed at spreading the culture of democratic leadership, directing further studies and research on the reality of leadership styles used in families and their difficulties, and their relationship to other variables, and developing action plans to diagnose weaknesses and methods for treating them.
