School libraries map in Syria: problems review and suggestions for the process of reengineering them

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to give a comprehensive vision in order to increase the performance of the school libraries in Syria, and to support the educational processes and meet the needs of the school society.

The researcher followed a descriptive and analytic method to explain the ideal of process reengineering and how to apply it for nonprofit organizations, and also to determine most of the obstructions in our school libraries especially in last eight years period which was affected strictly by the war. The results of this research came to show the difference of challenges which are facing most of the libraries such as weaknesses in lows and enactment as well as humans resources, changing in informational requirements, developments of educational visions and technics improvements. Based on the above, the researcher suggested the following items it can be assumed as a reference when we start the development process: library as a perceptive establishment, library as an educational establishment, library as a developed establishment and finally library as a participatory establishment. The research concluded with some solutions in order to avoid any economical and professional challenges that could face our libraries.
