Directing treatment of the image of war in the school of director Hatem Ali(An analytical comparative study between the series Al-Zeer Salem and the Palestinian Alienation)

Abstract

This research aims to identify how the director Hatem Ali portrayed the scenes of the wars (Basous) and (Nakba of Palestine), in each of the two Syrian historical drama series: (Al-Zeer Salem) and (The Palestinian Alienation), in terms of the content of the shots, characters, its events, type of shots, camera movement, angles, type of lighting, music, and sound effects, in order to form an understanding about the school of the great director Hatem Ali, in embodying the war content, and how close it is to the historical truth.The research belongs to descriptive studies, and uses the survey method, and the content analysis tool, on a sample consisting of (734) a screenshot and )48( characters from the series (Al-Zeer Salem), and (610) a screenshot  and  (55) characters from the series (The Palestinian alienation.( The research concluded with a set of results, the most important of which: the director relied on the gender of young men, fighters and poets in his works, and the use of accessories, spears and swords as an accessory in (Al-Zeer Salem), guns and tanks in  the )Palestinian Alienation), and presenting an external appearance in proportion to the historical era in the two works,  and the director varied in the filming mechanism adopted in the two works, in terms of angles, sizes of shots, camera movements, places and times of filming, sound effects and soundtracks, according to dramatic justifications in order to achieve the realism of the war scene and its impact. The research recommends presenting dramatic works that monitor several historical periods because of their impact on the viewer that may exceed the documentary material,and  the researcher suggests activating the concept of (directional school) to study the method of a director, and its mechanism of action, in conveying the facts.
