Abstract

Objective: The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of aloe Vera extract in relieving pain following conservative extraction and healing the soft tissues at the extraction site.

Materials and methods: This randomized controlled study using the split mouth technique included20 adult patients, aged 25-45 years, who underwent conservative extraction of the upper and lower premolars. Each patient had two symmetrical extraction sites. The study sample was randomly divided into two groups (A) the aloe Vera group, and group (B) the control group, extraction was performed for both sides in one appointment, then the pain following conservative extraction and soft tissue healing at the extraction site were then assessed.

Results: The Mann-Whitney U test was used to study the difference between the two study groups in pain scores during each of the observation periods, post-extraction pain index scores and tissue healing.

The Freidman test of correlated samples was used to study the difference in pain scores between the observation periods in each of the two study groups. The results showed a decrease in pain scores in the experimental group compared to the control group with statistically significant differences on the first, third and seventh day after extraction, which were, respectively, (p=0,002-0,001-0,010) ,There were also statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of soft tissue healing at the extraction site on the seventh day after extraction(p<0.05).

Conclusion: The application of aloe Vera extract in dental alveoli after extraction had an effective role in improving soft tissue healing and relieving post-extraction pain.
