The Effect of Nasal Hump Reduction and Medial Crura Strengthen on Nasal Tip Rotation and Projection.

Abstract

Background & aim: It is important to study the changes that occur on the anatomical structures of nasal tip at the change on any of its anatomical components because of its anatomical complicity.

This study aims to identify the relationship between nasal hump reduction>3mm and medial crura strengthen with trans cartilaginous sutures on nasal tip rotation and projection.

Methods: this is a retro progressive study that was performed on 34 patients who underwent rhinoplasic surgery in Al Moasat hospital between 2019-2020.The patients were devided into 4 groups:

First group nasal hump reduction>3mm with  medial crura strengthen,Second group :nasal hump reduction>3mm without medial crura strengthenThird group :no nasal hump reduction or nasal hump reduction<3mm with medial crura strengthen .Forth group: no nasal hump reduction or nasal hump reduction<3mm without medial crura strengthen.

The rotation of nasal tip was evaluated by measuring the nasolabial angle before the surgery and 6 months after, the projection of nasal tip was measured by Good's Method before the surgery and 6 months after.The measurement were taken by Auto cad2010 software. And  the PAIRED SAMPLES T TEST was applied for each group of groups to compare the results before and after in the same group, then the application of the ANOUVA test to find out the difference between the four groups and which of them is the best on Rotation and projection of the nasal tip.

Results: The study showed that reduction of the nasal hump >3 mm causes a significant decrease in nasal tip projection, and strengthening the medial peduncle causes a  significant increase in nasal tip rotation and projection
