Pelvic Intravenous Leiomyomatosis with Trans-Caval Extension to the Heart and Pulmonary Arteries: Report of two Cases
Abstract
Pelvic intravenous leiomyomatosis is a benign smooth muscle cell tumor that has the tendency to grow within systemic veins. Rarely, pelvic intravenous leiomyomatosis may develop an intra-caval extension that can reach right heart chambers and pulmonary arteries. We report here two cases of pelvic intravenous leiomyomatosis that underwent surgical resection in two stages; the first stage was cardiac for excision of tumor extension from the right heart and pulmonary arteries, and the second stage was abdominal for completion resection of the pelvic mass and the intra-caval remnants.
