Early Complications Of Primary Total Hip Replacement In Damascuse University Hospitals.

Background & Aim: The research aims to study the early complications percentage of Primary Total Hip Replacement.
Methods and Materials: A progressive cohort study that included 71 adult patients over the age of 18 years and from both sexes, who were subjected to total primary hip replacement at Al-Assad University Hospital and Al-Mouasat University Hospital in Damascus between 1/1/2019 and1/1/2020, regardless of the reason of replacement. The patients'data, and the patients'recorded files were recorded, starting from the day of surgery and for a period of three months after the surgery, then the necessary information was recorded in a questionnaire about whether or not complications occurred after communicating with the patients.
Results: One case of fracture(1.40%) occurred 2 cm below the level of the femoral component and was treated with preservation of the artificial joint. In addition, 4 cases of dislocation were recorded(5.63%), 3 at posterior approach and 1 at the anterolateral approach. Infection occurred at a rate of(7.03%) in 5 cases divided into superficial infection (5.63%) and deep infection (1.40%). There were 3 cases of deep vein thrombosis(DVT)(4.22%) and 1 case of PE (1.40%), no case was recorded for sciatic nerve injury.
Conclusion: The most common complications after total hip replacement are in the period around surgery and may continue over time. Follow-up after surgery is important to avoid complications by giving appropriate advice and directions to the patient and adhering to drug treatment. The studied findings from a database for developing strategies to prevent complications in patients' elective hip replacement, and to encourage the establishment of appropriate rehabilitation centers for patients after surgery.
