Abstract

The research will introduce the Expropriation and its architectural and urban influence in the old city Damascus neighborhoods examples: al-Classa and al –Hamrawi.
Despite the fact that expropriation was been applied mainly for public benefit and development projects, most of the expropriated proprieties and neighborhoods turned into abandoned and neglected properties with extremely hazardous environmental and physical conditions, that doesn’t, in anyway, reflect or express its original identity.
The research will suggest a development and protection plan in the old city; also, it will show the importance of the following points:
 To introduce a massage to the stakeholders in the old city to avoid the expropriation and activating the original ownership in case of the unapplied decrees. Reconsider ownership and functioning in the abandoned properties that do not meet the public benefit purposes.
 To introduce a restoration and rehabilitation plans for the abandoned properties to encourage the directory of the old city to do something against the bad influence of the expropriations between 1950-1979.
