Attitudes of Psychology department students at the faculty of Education at Damascus University towards their Academic Specialization

This research aimed at identifying Attitudes of Psychology department students at the faculty of Education at Damascus University towards their Academic Specialization, and knowing unmaterial differences among their attitudes according to the following variables: gender, the branch of the secondary certificate, and the academic year. The research used the analytical descriptive approach. The research sample consisted of (617) female and male students from the psychology department at the faculty of education at Damascus University. An attitude questionnaire towards the specialization was used and it consisted of (33) items distributed into three domains prepared by the researcher.
The research results indicated that the attitudes of psychology department students at Damascus University were medium. Concerning the domains of the questionnaire, their attitudes wee positive regarding the first domain (the attitude towards the importance of psychology), medium towards the domains of (attitudes towards the courses of psychology-attitudes towards practicing the work of psychological specialist). The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences among the attitudes of psychology department student towards their specialization according to the gender variable; whereas, there were statistically significant differences according to the variable of the branch of certificate in favour of the literary branch. In addition, there were statistically significant differences according to the academic level in favour of the students of the second stage.
