An analytical comparative study between the results of the formal and open education exams at the University of Damascus

Abstract

The aim of this research is to study the results of the formal and open education exams and to know the differences between them in terms of the educational system and the type of questions and to study the phenomenon of high and low success rates and the effect of the pattern of questions on them in the formal and open education. In addition to knowing the percentage of automated and traditional courses and the success rate in them in the formal and open education. The researchers used the comparative descriptive approach for its relevance to the nature of the research and achieving its objectives. The original community of the research represented all faculties of Damascus University that include open education programs, which are the following faculties: economics, education, law, arts and humanities, political science, media, and the research sample: it included three Faculties of the indigenous community, namely economics, education and law. Thus, the study sample from the colleges included 50% of the original community in addition to all the automated and traditional courses, the number of students applying for these courses, and the success and failure rates in the formal and open education.

Among the most important results of this research: The number of students

in open education is more than the number of students in formal education in colleges that adopt formal and open education, and in most of these colleges the difference is twice the number of the same, in favor of open education. The percentage of automated courses in formal education reached 69.6%, while this percentage in open education reached 80.3%, and the average success rate in formal education was (51.02), while it was in open education (66.88) .
