The study aims to determine the degree to which the criteria for scientific passion and their indicators are included in the educational and evaluative activities contained in the science textbooks for the seventh and eighth grades of the basic education stage (the second cycle) in Syria. To achieve this goal, the researcher prepared a form for analyzing the criteria for scientific passion and their indicators, and then analyzed the learning and assessment activities by following the steps and methodology of content analysis, while adhering to the established rules. The research yielded multiple results, the most important of which are as follows:
- The activities in the science textbooks for the seventh and eighth grades of basic education focused significantly on "Criterion Two - the content helps develop research and inquiry skills in students," with a percentage of 34.3% in the seventh-grade textbook and 34.6% in the eighth-grade textbook.
- Most of the criteria for scientific passion were present in the activities of the science textbooks for both the seventh and eighth grades, with varying degrees: "Criterion Seven - the content helps develop emotional values in students" was at 17.4% in the seventh grade and 19% in the eighth grade; "Criterion Three - the content helps develop interaction skills in students" was at 15.6% in the seventh grade and 14.5% in the eighth grade; "Criterion One - the content helps develop scientific values in students" was at 13.8% in the seventh grade and 13.5% in the eighth grade; and "Criterion Four - the content helps achieve self-actualization in students" was at 12.6% in the seventh grade and 13% in the eighth grade.
- The activities in the science textbooks for the seventh and eighth grades neglected "Criterion Five - the content helps develop motivation in students," with a percentage of 4.8% in the seventh grade and 3% in the eighth grade; and "Criterion Six - the content helps develop positive energy in students," with a percentage of 1.2% in the seventh grade and 2% in the eighth grade.
