This study aims to analyze to what extent Syrian companies apply environmental and social responsibilities. It focuses on studying three companies from three different sectors (industrial, telecommunications, and banks). The same standards applied by S&P Global Ratings were used to determine how these three companies adopt environmental and social responsibilities. The descriptive analytical method was used to analyze the collected data. The data was collected through corporate governance reports and direct interviews. The results suggested that there were no clear policies and standards to measure environmental and social responsibilities at Syrian companies.
However, the application of social responsibility was evident at the three companies. On the other hand, a weak adoption of environmental responsibility was found at both the industrial and financial sector. On the contrary, environmental responsibility was well adopted in the telecom sector. This study concluded with a set of recommendations to improve the situation of environmental and social responsibility in Syrian companies.
