Reflection of Population Growth Average on Syrian Cities Dimensions

Abstract

This research sheds light on the impact of population growth average and density on the population geographical distribution in Syrian governorates dimensions using various standards and demographic indicators .

The research has shown that governorates with dispersed population and high  population growth average extend over the territories of  the cities of  Dier azour,  Al raqa, Al Quneitra, and Homs which form  53.3% of the country's area, with a population density of 40.1% p/km2; while governorates with moderate growth population average extend over the territories of  Idleb, Al Hassaka,   Al Sweidaa, Hama, and Rif Dimashq) which form 32.8% of  the country's total area, with a population density of 124.7% p/km2.

On the other hand , governorates with high population density and low population growth level extend over Damascus ,Lattakia, Tartus, Daraa and Aleppo and form 13.3% of the country's total area, with a population density of 381.7% p/km2, thus, 3 times the of the population density of moderate population growth average governorates,  and 9 times the governorates with dispersed population growth average .

Consequently, this research is considered a scientific work which can be used as a reference when outlining developmental and social programs across the country .
