Abstract

The Poet and thinker Muhammad Eqbal needs no introduction. Many researchers know that he wrote most of his divans in Persian. However, the subject of the research is a critique of translations of "Gabriel Wing" which was written in Urdu. The study shed light on the differences between three Arabic translations: Al Muluhi gave a prose translation from French, then Zuhair Zaza wrote it in poetry diverting it from its original meanings since it was indirect translation, and then Hazem Mahfouz gave the prose translation directly from Urdu.

The study referred to some amatory extracts and quatrains, which were ignored by the first two translators who added them without any reference to that with a mere dependence in the French translation. The study proved that Mahfouz abided by what appeared in the original Urdu text because it was a direct translation.
