Ibn-Nubata Alfariki Oratory: The Imaginary and Rhythmic Structure

Abstract

Ibn Nubata Al-fariki is one of the most outstanding Orators of Abbasiyeen orators in the fourth Hijri- century, and he was the most articulate and eloquent of them. The research addresses the content and intellectual structure, and the linguistic and stylistic structure. This research is devoted to examine the imaginary and rhythmic structure of these orations, because of the importance of the imaginary and rhythmic  and their role they play in building signification, and in the emotional effect on the audience. And this is available in Alfariki' oratory: He preferred metaphor and acceptable exaggeration. And he was skillful in embodying and personifying, especially where he wanted to speak about life and death.

The findings of this research are as follows:

  • The mental image is strongly present in Ibn Nabata's orations, and it is –in general- , a deep, thoughtful, and accurate image. And this is natural in such period, as the intellectual enlightenment flourished at that time.
  • Death is a favorite motif for him, which he has personified and presented in a very interesting and humorous style.
  • Alfariki uses genitive construction as a favorite pattern for his mental images. This displays a special vision of the world that requires deep thought that seeks to search facts of existence..
  • The perception image in the orations is various and universal.
  • As for the main characteristics of these images: they are: complex in structure, in the use of paradox and irony, in binary oppositions, and in repetition special images, so that we can consider symbols of existence. They are also very effective and dynamic in the context and not only for decoration.
  • The most important rhythmic phenomena that created musical resonant rhythm in the orations are: Assonance, diglossia, and anagram.

The research was in accordance with the descriptive analytical approach that fits this type of analysis and in accordance with the psychological approach, which is very important in studying oratory, in general.
