Abstract

This research aims to study the classification of the needs of the elderly people. The study followed the analytical descriptive method by mapping out the research which dealt with elderly needs. The researcher found that there is no unified classification of sociologists on the needs of the elderly and there are many differences of opinion on their needs. However, the researcher found that elderly needs were most frequently divided into primary and secondary needs. Furthermore, needs were also frequently classified into health needs, social needs, economic needs and psychological needs. The research recommends the necessity and importance of classifying the needs of the elderly in order to activate, amend and restructure the laws and legislations pertaining to the elderly, from social, health and economic insurance to provide physical, health and social security to ensure a decent living for the elderly.
