Abstract

The process of evaluating groups is considered one of the important elements in the process of building and developing groups in order to form an accurate picture of the extent of the group's comprehensiveness, its depth, the extent of benefit from it, and setting an indicator or basis upon which to build and develop groups. In the library of Al-Sham Private University, in light of the standards of the American Library Association and the statement of the importance of the evaluation process in the library. Therefore, the case study approach was relied upon. The study sample was the central library group at Al-Sham Private University. Where the information was collected through direct observation and conducting an interview (the study tool), and the axes of the interview were analyzed until the study reached the most important results, which is the lack of commitment of the library to apply the professional standards for evaluating the collections, which negatively

affected the development of its collections. It is the use of professional standards when conducting the evaluation process and developing an action plan for evaluating collections as part of the policy for building and developing collections in the library.
