Abstract

This research demonstrates the impact of the spiritual and ascetic thought of Origen on Egyptian Christian monasticism, and where the spiritual and ascetic writings of Origen sparked an intellectual revolution in the life of Christian monasticism and found lovers among the monks. This movement appeared in the Christian Church in the third century AD as a result of the writings of the scholar Origen (185-254 AD), especially the Book of Principles.

The spiritual and ascetic ideas of Origen are credited with transforming monasticism from astate of asceticism to a state of deep, contemplative activity. Monasticism, at the beginning of its establishment, was based on the practical practice of the life of virtue, i.e. entering the arena of struggle in the wilderness against darkness in order to implement the evangelical commandment. Origianism infiltrated some of the monks and hermits, so that some might find their own selves, or even their goal of embarking on deep divine contemplations.  For this reason, we wanted to research the spiritual and ascetic thought of Origen and the extent of their impact on monasticism. So I dealt with the scholarly and theological life of the scholar Origen of Alexandria (185-254 AD), then explained the spiritual, ascetic and doctrinal thought of Origen, and the church’s condemnation of Origen. Finally, I touched on Anthony, the founder of monasticism in Egypt.
