Background and Objective: advanced cases of head and neck cancers constitute more than 50% of squamous-cell carcinomas in the head and neck, and managing and dealing with them is a "great" challenge. Our study aims to show one of the novel treatment method that extensive surgical treatment is involved with the introduction of a modern pattern of topical chemotherapy using Cisplacil implants, which are useful in achieving good local control of the tumor and improving the relative survival "and quality of life."
Materials and Methods: A clinical case of a 33-year-old patient with a neoplastic lesion in the left base of the neck. In her surgical history is resection of right tongue cancer with multiple-staged neck dissection with complementary post operative radiotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy, where she had extensive resection of recurrence with axillary dissection and left clavicle resection with the use of Cisplacil implants which are medical cellulose slices Impregnated with Cisplatin. These slices were spread within the surgical field, especially in suspected areas.
Results: The method showed an improvement "in regional control and maintaining as much as possible a good quality of life and avoiding the severe pain caused by nerves infiltration. In clinical trials, it came into practice in the treatment of high-grade brain tumors and improved disease-free survival rates by more than 50% and reduced local recurrence rates by more than 40% compared to conventional treatments.
Conclusion: This intervention with the aforementioned medicinal substance has achieved a "good" success for the patient with regard to regional control, survival, and quality of life. In the hope of applying it more broadly to reach accurate results.
