Aleppo experience in the rehabilitation of the old city " Pilot Project of the historical Bab Qinnasrin" Proposed strategy for post-crisis reconstruction

Abstract

The Pilot Project to rehabilitate Bab Qinnasrin area in ancient Aleppo is considered as a prominent Syrian project of safeguarding the architectural and urban heritage in historical cities till 2011, through the preparation of a development plan and un urban system to characterize and set the activities, and to repair the problems of rehabilitation, construction and traffic, also to modernize the infrastructures, services, economic activities and determine the use of land. The project was marked by sustainability by a policy of maintaining the overall urban. The work in the project included: a typical restoration of un area of commercial and residential character.

The research discusses the development results of the Pilot Project, and study the impact & extent of the damage caused by the armed conflict on the studied area. finally, there will be a suggestion of principles of the reconstruction as a model could be generalized for all other Syrian historical areas.
