This paper aims to explore the role of collaborative design process, and the factors contributing to positive collaboration practices between architects and structural engineers, by exploring number of case studies, then discussing the role of collaborative design process in Syria.
By exploring case studies, we define the role of collaboration between architect and structural engineer, and we define a number of factors contribute to enhancing this collaboration, such as the presence of knowledge competencies, mutual respect, trust, and support the decisions of each discipline.
the role of collaboration between architects and construction in Syria is still limitedd, This limitation in the relationship leads to avoiding design decisions that contain construction solutions that are out of the ordinary locally, which gives precedence to a certain type of design and construction solutions without any development or innovation in merging structural concepts with architectural design, this lack of collaboration may also lead to problems in integrating structural elements with functional or aesthetic architectural requirements.
