Assessment of Basic Thinking Skills in the Arabic Language Textbooks for Basic Education (Second Cycle) in Syria

Abstract

The aim of the research is to assess the basic thinking skills in the learning and assessment activities included in the Arabic language textbooks for the basic education stage (the second cycle) in Syria. To achieve the goal of the research, the researcher prepared a form for analyzing basic thinking skills in order to determine the degree of availability of these skills in the learning and assessment activities included in the content of the Arabic language textbooks for the basic education stage (the second cycle). Then the researcher analyzed the learning and assessment activities following the steps of content analysis and methodology, and taking into account the rules on which it is based.

The search yielded multiple results, the most important of which were the following:

1- The basic thinking skills in the learning and assessment activities included in the Arabic language textbooks for the basic education stage (the second cycle) were unevenly available.

2- The productivity / obstetric skill achieved a percentage of (30.5%), which is the highest percentage achieved in other skills.

3- The Arabic language textbooks for the basic education stage (seventh, eighth and ninth) all neglected the skill of concentration with a percentage of (0.26%).

4- Arabic language textbooks have achieved most of the basic thinking skills, but at the same time they do not give a clear picture of the level of processing each mental skill, which indicates that there are no relative weights for each of the basic thinking skills.
