Vocational Interests among Pupils of the basic Education stage (the second cycle) and its relationship to their Academic Achievement in the city of Damascus

Abstract

The aim of the research is to identify the relationship between vocational interests and academic achievement among pupils of the basic education stage (second cycle) eighth and ninth grades, and to reveal the significance of differences in vocational interests according to the variable (gender, class). It was applied to a sample of (202) male and female pupils who were chosen in a stratified random manner. A scale of vocational interests was used, which was prepared according to Holland's theory, and the research reached the following results:

 The prevailing vocational interests patterns for males, the traditional and realistic pattern, and for females the social and traditional pattern, there is a positive correlation between all patterns of vocational interests and academic achievement, and there are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the sample members on the vocational interests scale according to the gender variable, and the differences were in favor of males In the realistic style, and in favor of females in the social and artistic style. There are no statistically significant differences according to the grade variable.
