Abstract

This research paper aims at getting to know about the interpersonal motives and its relation to some variables through of a sample of students in the Schools of Martyrs’ Children. It also aims at getting to know the indication of differences amongst the sample students according to the variables of (gender, schooling level and the number of home visits). The research sample comprises (372) students (211) male, (161) female residing in the dorms of the Schools of Martyrs’ Children. The sample contains (7th, 8th, 10th and 11th) grades respectively. The list of interpersonal motives linked to ‘transgression’ TRIM 18) which is edited by McCullough and Hoyt (2002) is used here. The list is used to measure interpersonal motives after being exposed to transgression motives of revenge, avoidance and tolerance. This study has come up with the following results:

  1. The hierarchical scale of interpersonal  motives amongst  sample  students shows that  motivation  to avoid  the violator came  in the first  rank with arithmetic  average (3027) i.e. evaluation : average. In the last rank, came motive for revenge  with  arithmetic  average : (2058) i.e. average
  2. The ranges of the scale of interpersonal motives as found in the sample, wavers between ‘low’ on the dimension of the motive for avoidance on the one hand, and ‘medial’ on the dimensions of revenge and tolerance.
  3. No differences that have statistical indication between the averages of grades amongst members of the sample students on the scale of interpersonal motives with regard to the dimension of the motive for revenge have been traced. However, differences that have statistical indication with regard to the dimension of motives to avoid the transgressor have been found in the female students participating in the sample. Differences that have statistical indication with regard to the dimension of the motive for tolerance are found in the male students according to the variable of gender.
  4. No differences of statistical indication with regard to the dimension of the motive for revenge were traced. However, differences in the variable of the class level that have statistical indication with regard to the dimensions of the motives to avoid the transgressor and tolerance in favor of 8th grade students are traced.
  5. Differences of statistical indication with regard to the dimension of the motive for revenge according to the variable of the number of the monthly home visits in favor of the visits’ group are traced. It has also been noticed that no differences of statistical indication with regard to the two dimensions of the motive to avoid the transgressor and the motive for tolerance are traced.
