This study presents an analysis of internal conflicts based on functional structural theory, clarifying the essential functional requirements for the continuity of society according to Parsons and the extent to which social systems adhere to them and their role in explaining conflict. It also addresses Lewis Coser’s idea of the functionality of conflict. The study aims to elucidate aspects of social functional dysfunction during conflicts; it takes the conflict that occurred in Algeria between 1991-2001 as a model,
providing an explanation for the causes of this conflict starting from its events in an ascending manner, and delves into the events of the conflict to determine the effects it left on society and to demonstrate the role of social systems in Algeria. The study reached a number of conclusions, one of which is that functional dysfunction in the implementation of social systems, one of the functional requirements, does not necessarily mean a dysfunction in the rest of the requirements, despite all systems being characterized by a feature of integration.
