الملخص

Arab identity has suffered many crises that have turned it into a problem in the Arab socio-political sphere; a problem that regards affiliation, loyalty, and ideology. The ethnic and sectarian diversity, in addition to other divisions within Arab society, were only some of the reasons that led to the emergence of sub-identities, all nourished by the colonialism of course, that fueled in turn more and more schism and division within the Arab identity, taking advantage of the geographical factors.

This identity -up to the current crucial moment in history- has so far failed to overpass its problems, dragging along several territorial countries such as Syria. The crisis/war has exposed some serious repercussions of the Arab identity on the Syrian identity, raising an immediate need to redress this urgent matter.

Thus, the researcher has concluded that addressing the problem of the Syrian identity requires removing the implications of the Arab identity attached to it and then dissecting the components of the aforementioned problem to reach an inclusive identity that satisfies all parties included, and achieves their interests.

To rebuild this identity, we need some requirements to realize a shared living environment among society members and move out of the current Syrian situation. Among these requirements is developing the concepts of tolerance, coexistence, and citizenship in Syrian society.

The project of augmenting identity represents a top priority and necessitates in itself to be strongly present in all the other steps towards reestablishing a Syria that is a secure and stable homeland with full sovereignty, starting from reforming the Constitution, moving towards amending curriculums of schools and universities, making sure not to neglect media fields, and all other institutions of civil, syndicate, partisanship, and research spheres, all in a method that guarantees enough liberty for each individual in order to broaden the spectrum of choices for the public to express their self and identity awareness based on cultural value, which is yet to be accomplished.
