The research examines the application of international humanitarian law in armed conflicts, aiming to clarify the concept and sources of international humanitarian law, and to study the extent of its application in armed conflicts. The study revolves around analyzing the basic concepts of international humanitarian law and the obligations of states under it, as well as studying the national and international mechanisms for the application of international humanitarian law, with a focus on the factors that affect its implementation and the challenges it faces.
The research includes a descriptive and analytical study of the categories protected under international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, and a study of the factors that affect its implementation in the field, such as the ability of conflicting states to apply it and international solidarity in its implementation.
The study concludes that international humanitarian law aims to alleviate the suffering of armed conflicts and is based on a set of international agreements and protocols. International humanitarian law is also based on a set of principles that focus on alleviating the suffering of armed conflicts. However, international humanitarian law faces challenges in effective implementation, especially in the absence of a clear mechanism for intervention to resolve conflicts and stop bloodshed. The study also notes that the principles of international humanitarian law are inconsistently applied and are sometimes influenced by the interests of superpowers, as was the case in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
