The Effect of Restriction Style with Negation and Exception in the Argumentation: an Applied Study in al-Najm Surah

Abstract

Argumentation is a linguistic activity based on evidential reasoning that persuades and affects the recipient. The research aims at studying one of the styles of argumentation in the holy Qur’an, which is the restriction style with negation and exception in al-Najm Surah for knowing characteristics of this style, and its effect in the argumentation. In this research, the analytical inductive approach was adopted, examples of the restriction style with negation and exception in al-Najm Surah were extracted, and analyzed. Among the results, the restriction style with negation and exception is considered one of the argument factors that clearly highlight the presence of argument within the language. It limits and restricts the interpretation, it directs the mind of the recipient towards a specific destination wanted by the speaker, and it has a persuasive effect on him. Among the recommendations, the restriction style with negation and exception should be used in the field of the Islamic call because of its very important role in persuasion.
