The Suitability of the Divine Attributes Found in the End of the Verses with the content of the Verses According to Ibn ʿAṭiyya: A Comparative and Analytical Study

Al-muḥarrar al-waǧīz by Ibn ʿAṭiyya al-Andalusī is considered to be one of the most important Qurʾanic exegeses, for Ibn ʿAṭiyya in the work includes edition, verification, and refinement. Ibn ʿAṭiyya deals with the rhetorical dimension of the Qurʾān. The rhetorical dimension focuses on, in particular, the suitable choice of words in the Qur'an. The present paper examines the suitable choice of words in the Qurʾān, namely, the relationship between the attributes of God mentioned at the end of the verses and the content of the verses in their contexts. In this research, the examples in which Ibn ʿAṭiyya demonstrates the relationship between the content of the verse and the attributes of God will be collected and explained in detail. Moreover, the study will compare between the views of Ibn ʿAṭiyya and other Qurʾānic exegeses on this issue. In conclusion, the research will show agreements and differences between their opinions. The paper will help its reader discover Ibn ʿAṭiyya's approach to the Qurʾānic rhetoric.
