Abstract

The interpretation of "At-Tahrir wa At-Tanwir" by Ibn Ashur is one of the most important exegeses in the modern era. This is due to its inclusion of editing, investigation, and refinement. It is particularly renowned for its meticulous treatment of the rhetorical aspects and linguistic subtleties found in the structure of the Quranic verses. Ibn Ashur's work strives to elucidate the profound meanings and complete them, with particular attention given to the topic of pausing (waqf) and beginning (ibtida), recognizing their profound influence in preserving the intended message and avoiding misinterpretation during recitation. This research compiles the examples in which Ibn Ashur has mentioned the various aspects of pausing and beginning in the verses of the Quran based on the varied parsing aspects. It sheds light on a set of rules that should be considered in pausing and beginning and compares Ibn Ashur's insights with the works of other scholars who have written on this subject. It also compares his findings with the perspectives of some grammarians and interpreters dedicated to this aspect. The aim is to elucidate the points of agreement and divergence between Ibn Ashur's views and theirs, enriching the study of this important aspect of pondering the meanings of the Quran. Furthermore, it assists the readers in enhancing their recitation, appreciating the meanings of the Quran, and adhering to the appropriate places for pausing and beginning, according to their abilities.
