Abstract

The purpose of this research is to demonstrate how the philosopher Marcus Aurelius could establish a real turning point in the philosophy of Stoicism given that he could modify many of the ideas, which ancient Stoicism considered as fixed and unchangeable as of their relatedness to the essence of the Stoic doctrine. Aurelius could set epistemological principles in accordance with his new perspective on the human position in the world. His philosophy revealed an innovative vision that links Man to the universe in a realm of unity of existence, without individualism melting in holism, leading to the maintaining of the value of individual moral effectiveness within a general natural order.
