The reality of correctional programs and their role in modifying the behavior of juvenile delinquents - a field study in the Juvenile Observation House in Nineveh-

The problem of the study began with revealing the reality of the rehabilitation programs implemented in the Male Juvenile Observation House in the city of Mosul, in addition to identifying the most important positives and negatives facing the work of this rehabilitation institution in the field of rehabilitation and reform of juvenile delinquents in this institution. Through the researchers’ reliance on the social survey approach, and distributing the questionnaire tool to a random sample of (300) juveniles in the observation home, the researchers reached a set of positive results. It clear that the role of educational and cultural programs in addition to medical services as well as rehabilitation programs, vocational training, education and religious training programs. These all help change the deviant behaviors of
most of the detained juveniles. On the other hand, the results of the study revealed the presence of some negatives in the reality of the daily life of juveniles such as the presence of long hours of free time that some juveniles exploit to engage in harmful recreational activities such as smoking and gambling. The results of the study indicate that there is a need to develop and add many rehabilitation, vocational, recreational and creative programs aimed at developing the energies and desires of juveniles jailed in the observation center and protecting them from delinquency.
