Damascus University students’ reliance on satellite channels in shaping their economic, political, military, and cultural attitudes toward the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria

Abstract

This study aimed to achieve a main goal, which is an attempt to monitor and describe the nature of the dependence of Damascus University students on satellite channels in shaping their economic, political, military, and cultural attitudes towards the role played by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria. The study relied, in its theoretical framework, on the theory of dependence on the media, and used the survey method, where the study was applied to a non-probability quota sample of 400 individuals. The questionnaire newspaper was used as a tool for collecting data. It was concluded that satellite channels came in second place among the study sample members in terms of the degree of their dependence on the media in following up on the events and developments of the Syrian crisis. With an average rate of (2.5925), the general attitude of Damascus University students regarding the role played by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria was neutral, with an arithmetic average of (3.28089), as well as for each of their cultural, economic, and political trends, each of which came with arithmetic averages of (3.28089). Respectively: (3.2806), (3.0806), (3.0169), while their military orientation was OK, with an arithmetic average of (3.4506). With regard to the study hypotheses, the study concluded that there were statistically significant differences between males and females in both the political and cultural orientation towards the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria is in favor of males. There are also statistically significant differences between students of applied and humanities colleges in the intensity of their economic orientation towards the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria in favor of humanities colleges.
