Abstract

The millet system: of boredom is a system based on the classification of non-muslim Ottoman nationals based on the religious doctrine to which these subjects belong.

As for the term millet, it means ((non-Muslim Ottomans)) and it was used in the early nineteenth century, while the word (millet) was used in earlier times to refer to Muslims within the empire exclusively.

This research will clarify the Ottoman state’s position on its subjects and how they organized their affairs within their sects and their faith, this, in turn, was one of the reasons why. that followed it on the social, political, religious and cultural reality of the Levant, as a result of the privileges granted by the Ottoman sultans to European countries and the role of missionaries in isolating governors and bloody wars Which was established in Mount Lebanon and pitting one sect against another, and indeed one doctrine against another within the same sect.

Finally, the research deals with the intimate relationship between

France and the Maronites, the role that both sides played in the presence of the other in Mount Lebanon in particular.
