Abstract

The competition for the territories of the Ottoman Empire occupied a significant phase in the history of European powers, especially in the last quarter of the nineteenth century when European ambitions intensified due to the realization of the imminent decline of the Ottoman Empire. It is not an exaggeration to say that Britain was the most influential country in this struggle due to its political and military weight at the time. The British

political approach towards the Ottoman Empire can be divided into two main strategies: the first was to maintain the unity of Ottoman territories and support the Ottomans, and the second was a clear effort to control Ottoman lands. Undoubtedly, both strategies were aimed at serving Britain's supreme interests, regardless of Ottoman interests
