Abstract

This research shows the impact of the Greeks and Romans on the development of the science of geography. Geography was studied among the Greeks. The research dealt with the writings of Herodotus and the campaign of Alexander (334-323 BC) on the Middle East, and the writings of the geographer Eratosthenes, Hipparchus, and Poseidonios. Geography was also studied among the Romans. The research dealt with the study of geographers of different origins, including the geographer Strabo of 'Amaseia, Isidore of

Charax, King Juba II, the geographer Gaius Julius Hyginus, and Claudius. Ptolemy (Claudius Ptolemy), and the research reviewed the Roman geographers who contributed to the development of geography, including Julius Caesar and Marx Vipsanius Agrippa, and the research explains by comparison between Greek geographers and Roman geographers, the development of the science of geography, geographical discoveries, and drawing The maps were at the hands of the Greeks, while the Romans did not provide any significant development or progress. Rather, the greatest reliance was on what the Greeks provided.
