Abstract

  • Background and aim:An uncommon medical condition with two complications of frontal sinusitis: subperiosteal orbital abscess and subdural abscess.
  • Materials and methods:A case report of a 13-year-old male who presented with fever and seizures. Clinical examination revealed acute sinusitis with left exophthalmos and blepharedema. Investigations revealed a left subperiosteal orbital abscess and an intracranial abscess. Urgent surgery was performed, combined with appropriate intravenous antibiotic therapy, after culture and sensitivity test, and detection of the pathogen that was Escherichia coli.
  • Results:This case with literature review present a rare clinical case and discuss multidisciplinary collaboration in managing acute complicated frontal sinusitis. It was clear that despite the availability of effective antibiotics and diagnostic and therapeutic means, complications of paranasal sinusitis still occur and may be serious.
