Abstract

Nonlinearity obstructsthe control and predictability of systemdynamic behavior. In order to attain successful controlperformance, adaptive control

concepts are introduced to adjust the controller parameters.

The research addressesthe control of continuous stirred tank reactor temperature using explicit and implicit forms of Self-Tuning Regulator algorithm(STR). The system parameters areadjusted using Least Square Estimation algorithm(LSE) and the Recursive Least Square Estimation algorithm(RLSE). And controller parametersareadjusted using pole placement.

The research provesthat the implicit self-tuning regulator algorithm achieves the same performance as the explicit algorithm when controlling the temperature of the continuous stirring tank reactor without the need to represent the system with a mathematical model, thus reducing the number of calculations.
