The Grotesque in Middle Ages Sculpture- Chartres Cathedral sculptures as Samples

The aim of this research is to identify the Grotesque concept as one of the
essential philosophy concepts which emerged in aesthetics. Although the concept was originated in the ancient Roman era, it re-emerged as a result of the changes aestheticism underwent since the Art liberated from Classicism domination and its unchanged criteria especially at the beginning of the 20th century. The research discusses some middle-ages sculptural samples also, such as the ones in Chartres Cathedral which are characterized by Grotesque elements. However, proving the research is by analyzing these sculptural works as well as applying Grotesque elements to them.
