Abstract

The academic writings about the Arab Graphic art and its pioneers are considered few, so it was necessary to shed a light on one of the most

important experiences in the Arab world. (Rafa Al-Nasiri) experiment in the field of Graphic art is considered one of the most important, visually rich and unique experience in the Iraqi art history in specific and the Arab world in general, the artist's alienation from his homeland helped him to be more open to the world’s art movement and its contemporary developments. Considering the artist's roots from Iraq which considered to be the cradle of civilizations which were famous for their cylindrical seals dating back five thousand years, which formed the first beginnings of printed art, it is safe to say that despite this cultural heritage, this art has been absent from the Arab world for a very long time and returned in the sixties of the last century with the artists who They studied abroad, and this art remained limited to a few artists who practiced it in its true form. The aim of this research is shedding light on the experience of the Iraqi artist and the impact of eastern and western arts on his artistic vision. The beginning of this research was dedicated to explaining the beginnings of the artist's abstraction era and what inspired him to start using the Arabic calligraphy in his art works. Later on, we reviewed the influence the Dutch artist (Rembrandt) and a number of impressionist artists on the artist’s use of lights and shadows in his art works.

Finally, the research shed a light on the artist's art work which was linking the artist's new abstract style with the Arab literature heritage in his art works combining these two ideas to create new contemporary and unique prints.
