Registration of five new Species of Bryopsida for the first time in Syria

Abstract

This research, was conducted during 2021 in Al-Zabadani region (Damascus Countryside Governorate) and Al-Haffa (Latakia Governorate) in Syria, A descriptive study to inventory moss species present in these two regions as a continuation of previous studies on Plant Diversity Project in Syria, The results confirmed the presence of twenty species of Bryopsida mosses, five species of which were registered for the first time in Syria:

Didymodon fallax (Hedw.) R.H.Zander.,  Timmiella anomala (Bruch & Schimp.) Limpr., Tortella fragilis (Drumm.) Limpr., Brachythecium erythrorrhizon Schimp., Hygroamblystegium tenax (Hedw.) Jenn.

The classification was based on the morphological characteristics of the gametophyte and the sporophyte in comparison with the international taxonomic keys.
