Abstract

The possibility of preparation ceramic nano-composites as well as their shielding properties was studied. The results showed a significant effect of the components used on the variation of the mechanical properties of the ceramic composite. Ceramic composites prepared with different proportions of metallic elements (W, Pb, and Ba) were used to attenuate gamma and X-rays. The results showed a significant decrease in the values of the half-value layer with increasing the amount of additives, more effectively in the case of Ba and Pb. In addition, results showed the ability of ceramic samples to retain radon gas, which makes them suitable and effective in the storage of radioactive materials, especially those that emit radon gas.
