Abstract

The biomass of S. fluviatilis was collected from Ghouta Damascus in

the Damascus countryside governorate. Extraction was carried out with hexane solvent, acid esterification and transesterification were carried out to obtain biodiesel. Some physical and chemical properties of biodiesel were studied, as the acidity value reached 0.914 ± 0.13 mg KOH. g-1, saponification value 176.35±8.3 mg KOH. g-1, ester value 174.106 mg KOH. g-1 and iodine value 69.31 ± 0.97 g I2. 100 g-1, the results of gas chromatography GC-MS showed that the extract of S. fluviatilis consists of the following fatty acids: Tetradecanoic acid (Myristic), Hexadecanoic acid (Palmitic), Heptadecenoic acid (Margaric), cis-9-Octadecenoic acid (Oleic acid, Eicosenoic (Arachidic) acid, Docosanoic (Behenic) acid and Tetracosanoic (Lignoceric) acid, as the concentration of palmitic acid was 34.28%, which is the highest among other acids, followed by alpha-linoleic acid 23.03%, linoleic acid 16.37%, and then oleic acid 12.29%.
