Allelopathic effect of some Medicinal plants on germination seeds of some species plants

The experiment was carried out in the weed laboratory of biological control center, faculty of agriculture, Damascus university in 2023, to study the allelopathic effect of the powder of: sage Salvia officinalis, Tea Biden aurea, and African marigold Tagetes erecta, at two concentrations 15 and 30g/1kg turp on germination indicators and seedling growth for the following crop species: Beta vulgaris, Coriandrum sativum, Eruca sativa, Spinachia oleracea, and Trigonella foenum- graecum, as well as the following weed species: Erodium sp., Melilotis indicus, Silybum marianum, Sinapis arvensis, and Sonchus oleraceus, where the experiment was carried out in germination trays. The results showed that sage powder has an allelopathic inhibitory effect on seed germination indicators for both crops and weeds studied, but it increased % of dry weight and % of seedling death in most of the plant species studied, with the exception of C. sativum, where % of death was apparently different from the control at 15g/1kg turp. It was also shown that mariglold powder has an allelopathic inhibitory effect on seed
germination indicators most of the studied species, but % of dry weight increased significantly, and % of seedling death increased significantly or apparently in most of the studied species, and % of germination of B. vulgaris apparently increased at a 30g/1kg turp.
The effect of tea depended on studied species and the concentration of the powder of tea. At 15g/1kg turp gave a stimulating allelopathic effect on seed germination and growth of E. sativa. It also apparently reduced the % of seedling death, but significantly increased the% of phytotoxicity compared to the control. It also inhibited the growth of the weeds: Erodium sp., M. sativa, and S. oleraceous, and at 30 g/1kg turp had a stimulating allelopathic effect on seed germination and seedling growth of both C. sativum and M. indicus, but % of death increased significantly in C.sativum, and % of phytotoxicity increased significantly in M. sativa All treatment reduced germination indicators and increased % of dry weight of T. foenum- graecum and , S. marianum apparently compared to control. However,the sage and marigold treatments at 30g/1kg turp, as well as tea15g/1kg turp, reduced % of germination, and increased % of death in T. foenum- graecum significalty compared with control and the other treatments.
