Evaluating the response extent of public parks in the Qudsaya suburb to planning and service standards using Geographical Information System GIS

The research was carried out in the Qudsaya suburb of the Damascus countryside for the year 2022. With the aim of evaluating the standards for planning public parks and the extent of their achievement and service standards, given the importance of planning them in cities and providing basic services in them necessary to improve the quality of life and the environmental and social benefits for city residents. The study was carried out through field trips and satellite image analysis. Obtained from the Sentinel satellite with a resolution of 10 m On the date of 2022, using the Google Earth image from the SAS.planet website of the study area, then correcting it and comparing it with the organizational plan of the suburb and matching it with the field tour images and data from the suburb municipal data council, in order to apply the standards that must be achieved using geographic information systems GIS and extract the appropriate maps and compare them with international standards. The results of the field survey and satellite image analysis showed
that planning standards were not met for all parks except for only three parks, at a rate of 16.7% of the total number of parks, which is a very small percentage. The parks were distributed randomly and unfairly at the suburb level, and the provision of an individual’s share of them was not taken into account, in addition to the failure to meet the standards. The study concluded that it is necessary to improve the service reality in public parks and rely on GIS to obtain better results for public parks when planning and studying new neighborhoods, and to re-examine the reality of public parks in the suburbs. Besides improving their planning standards in terms of including some adjacent spaces due to the presence of empty spaces next adjacent to each other.
